^ Within the article I linked above it discusses how the USFS obviously has adopted the strategy of forcing "us" to bring suit against them as our only recourse. They have well in excess of a $5 billion budget, 220,XXX employees and probably a legal staff just sitting around sipping coffee waiting for something to do...a tough opponent of anyone's measure.

Although a feel good for us (short term) this forcing of our hand, lawsuits, is a grossly inefficient process that will consume years of hearings, precious resources, money and human, diverting our efforts to a more mundane less interesting/emotional and arguably ineffective arena.

For those that still don't believe money matters just take a look at how legislation is made at any level of government including county, city, state and federal.

Do you think its merely a coincidence the finance sector laws and regs favor big corporate bank/finance institutions??!! The banking sector alone has FIVE lobbyists for EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS! 535 voting members of congress X 5 lobbyists for every voting member of congress = 2,675 lobbyists FOR THE BANKING SECTOR ALONE!

Somehow and someway "we" need to paint the picture of urgency within all groups that value public access to our lands. This includes: Motorized and non-motorized interests! There are large vocal groups wanting to eliminate ALL humans regardless of the mode of transportation from large tracts of wild public land! We as a group are just not effective at evangelism! I hate to keep beating this dead horse but imagine if the reported 50,000 million folks that use and appreciated public lands were to contribute just $1 each to a central cause.

Only thing I have to say re. The lawsuits is that it IS doing SOMETHING in lieu of just doing basically NOTHING!!
The orgs as they stand right now are chasing their tails and largely ineffective that way. One org. Is going this direction, the other in a different...
With or without the lawsuits going on, the process (imo) takes equally as long. The other way your trying to strategically place individuals at the govornment level and VOTE for others. That's not an instantaneous affair either. Plus... It makes noise and can gain a fair amount of support for the orgs heading it up.
The whole lawsuit filing from our side is still a new move, so no one really knows what's gonna happen.

A good read from writer Dan Thompson via the BRC

Very well written!

Just a quick and late heads up about a trail repair on the richardson lake trail on the tahoe side of the Rubicon trail. They need volunteers to haul and spread some gravel this 7/12-13/2014 weekend. For details go to reno 4X4 or pirates wedsite.
