Hi all
anyone using an after market Sat Nav such as Garmin or Magellan or whatever.
If so does it work ok? How does it mount in your car? what are the best and worst features of your unit? If you had to buy another one which would you buy?
I thought about putting a genuine Toyota one in my LC100 but they cost around $4000 aud here in Australia. Aftermarket is much cheaper at between $300 and $1000.

Tonym.

Garmin 276C, just got it 3 weeks ago......I LOVE it, its an incredible unit, I can't think of anything I dont like about it. I use it with the City Select and Topo maps. The routing works very well in my parts, which is pretty rural with lots of dirt roads......it gets me there.

I would buy the same unit again in a heartbeat.

Mounted mine with a Ram suction cup mount, works well, however if mine(the Unit) did not rest on the dash it would bounce around a bit, but the unit resting on the dash puts it in the perfect spot for me.

The bean bag mount actaully works pretty well, as does the stick on mount(which is now in my fj40)

I have about $850 into mine, thats the 276, the auto kit(maps, cig cord, speaker) Ram mount.

I'll snap a pic of it on the dash of my 100

some pics of the 276c. I did not have the power/speaker cord hooked up. This is using the Ram mount

on the dash of my 40 with the Gramin bean bag mount, thing works pretty darn well, I have however mounted the stick on mount on the 40, its lower profile.

reception is great with just the stock antenna. runs for along time off the rechargible battery, 5-8 hours.

That's pretty cool and a lot cheaper than factory.

I must admit though, it was the best option ever and worth every penny. Has deflected numerous arguements on directions. :)

I have a Garmin 2610 and it works great except the screen is small. I'm just using the beanbag since I use it in a bunch of different cars. I'd go for one of the suction cup mounts. Mine's a bit old and there are new ones that probably work much better. I'd definitely go with a touch screen Navi though--just my preference.

As for OEM navi, there is a person that sells them used for about $1600US. He says they are backward compatible (you can use them in models prior to 2001). I can dig up his info if you are interested. I see them on eBay once in awhile. Though you might want to double check it compatibility where you are located.

yeah and I can use it in all the Cruisers, also use it away from the Cruisers......which is nice.
