Well here is a quick trip report:

We got down there on Friday mid afternoon, set everything up and chilled. The wind blew Friday night and there was a little drizzle, so that made for a rough night of sleep. We got up on Saturday morning, took a quick soak and headed out. We drove across the valley to one of the canyons on the Inyo side and started hiking up. We made it up a couple of miles and headed back down and back to camp. We had lunch, took a nap and decided that with the weather being questionable still, we packed up and headed back up Steel Pass and over to Crankshaft Junction and out to Gold Point, then to Tonopah and grabbed a motel room. Had to drive through the rain and snow to get to Tonopah. Ran out of CO2 while airing up the tires, so that really makes me want to get my OBA setup done. That is if Kilby ever gets my stuff to me. Looks like it is going to be another week. They are waiting on parts before they can send out my stuff.

We got up Sunday morning, and headed out towards Silver Peak and to the sand dunes. Hiked to the top of the dune and messed around in the sand, before heading out and cross country to Dyer, NV. Had lunch and then headed home. We were walking in the sand in a t-shirt in the morning and came home to 18” of snow at the house.

Now for some pics...

Here is the OzTent completely set up with the sides and front.

Here are some of the waterfall we found in the canyon.

A veiw from the canyon back down into the valley.

Here is the dune shots. Darcie is standing on top of the dune that is setting over the hood of the 80.

Our hike to the top (sorry for it being blurry our camera doesn't like sand).

Had a good time, but couldn't believe the amount of snow when we got home.

The Oztent looks good Jack! How was it in the wind?

I hope running from bad weather isn't a re-occurring theme again this year .

It poored in Tucson all night last night. And the surrounding peaks were getting snow with forecasted white down to the foothills! The rain was coming down so heavily on I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix this morning we had to slow down to 35mph just to see.

Craziness! And the nut trees are blooming in and around Folsom!

I can not wait to go!
last year on Blotch, it was NASTY too. No rain, but the wind and COLD really brought the suck and that was in late April. That tent looks great.
Im curious as to how it was in the wind?
Is it a pretty BIG tent folded up?

Thanks for the update and pics!

The tent was great. The only mistake (on our part) was that I didn't stake down the front or sides and when the wind started, they flapped alot. After staking everything down, it was solid. Pretty impressive with the main tent staked and the guy wires for the front portion being the only anchor. I think that if it was completely staked out, like it is supposed to be, it would be rock solid. Also the little bit of rain that fell on it, didn't soak in at all, it is truely waterproof, like it claims. What a concept.

I agree with the running from the weather, I really hope we get a break this year. We probably won't remember, but Darcie and I decided that maybe traveling in a El Nino winter isn't such a good idea.:D

It is a pretty big tent, we have the size 5, so it is big. If you look at the first dune picture, that is the tent in its bag loaded on the roof rack.

Jack...that tent looks like the Kimberley Kamper without the Kimberley :D.

Kewl looking tent for sure! Glad to hear you've arrived at your tent 'destination'!
