Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping to get some info on these products. I'm in the process of doing a bunch of mods to my 07 FJ but I have some questions. I currently have a TRD CAI installed but I'm considering installing a Safari snorkel to help prevent the oiled air filter from getting clogged by dust on the trail. Also, I think they look awesome! I know the Snorkel is set up to work with the factory air intake. I'm hoping that because the CAI draws air from the same spot as the factory setup, that there will be no problems hooking it up. Does anyone know if this will work?
I'll be putting on the fab fours bumper w/brushguard, Warn rear bumper, OME lift, JBA headers, JBA exhaust, URD quick shifter, Budbuilt full skid plates, Warn 9.5ti. I LOVE this truck! By the way, I also Love driving my FJ in Toledo....home of Jeep, HA!

I'm sure you could install the snorkel with the TRD CAI but I think the snorkel would be almost compleatly useless without the sealed up stock air intake to make sure it was pulling air from the snorkel and not from the dusty (and possibly waterloged) areas around it.

Bad seal?

Why would it have a bad seal with the CAI? They both use the same intake spot and the same size hole. The Safari snorkel website has detailed pics of the installation. I printed it out and showed it to one of the more experienced Techs at the delership and he said he didn't see any reason that there would be a problem. I'm gonna hold off on the snorkel now even if it does work. I might want to add a supercharger, trd or urd, so i'm not sure i'm gonna run a snorkel. I just want to know if it will work if i do dedice to do it. I don't want to remove the CAI because it has made a huge diff in performance....great sound and much better throttle responce....especially at highway speeds where I felt it struggled with the stock intake. I feel like the snorkel is a big commitment considering the huge holes you have to cut into the front panel and a piller. Thanks for the responce!

I've never really seen the TRD CAI in detail so I guess I'm not an expert on it, but CAI's are usually desined for purpouses that are counter productive towards what a snorkel is used for; and visa versa.

Thanks for the input Spaldam,
Perhaps you can clarify for me? If you haven't figured it out, I am a novice when it comes to the technical aspects of automobiles. I'm doing all I can to learn, but forgive me for my ignorance. Why are CAIs and Snorkel's counterproductive? Is it because the Snorkel will restrict the amount of airflow, thus rendering the CAI ineffective? From what i've read online, the Safari Snorkel claims to deliver far more air than is required for the factory intake. They say it was designed with modified engines in mind (ie. engines requiring greater air volume).

I found some good pics of a TRD CAI installation at http://larryj.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!ED575A41D548081C!1361.entry

Here is are detailed pics of a snorkel install: http://www.safarisnorkel.com/guides/TOYOTA/ss410hf/ss410hf.htm

I'm not so much interested in deep water crossings as in protecting the oiled air filter from getting clogged up with dust on the trail.
Again, I thank everyone for their input.

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I've been looking for. I just ordered that coupler from the hardware store and printed out the install instructions. Now I just have to wait till late november for the snorkel to arrive.

I wish you would have waited. If you'll notice, It's still a work on progress. I still have more fabing to do, I hope not but. The instructions are not complete at this time. I'm one of the first ones that's going to receve a Snorkel. Once I get mine, I will be updating exactly how and what you will need for doing the install. :)

I will be posting more on it in a few days.

I did see that it is a work in progress. I just ordered that coupler becauser i'd been looking for one in the right size anyhow. Even if it doesn't work, nine bucks isn't gonna break the bank. Are you getting your snorkel before mid-november? I too am going to be one of the first to get a snorkel, I already bought mine through fat bob's garage for $345. I was told by ARB that the snorkels aren't gonna be in the US untill mid november. I'll wait to have mine installed untill yours is complete. Thanks again and good luck!

They are in a container on the ship. They left for the US a couple of weeks ago. It won't be long before they hit the US shore. :bounce2:
