I really can't believe you would treat me like that. I thought we were friends. We've known each other for over ten years. I can't believe you would stoop that low.

I have 20 gals and two propane tanks in my garage. And acetylene, and mineral spirits and plenty of other ship too.

But that's even beside the point. You don't know anyone's story. Anyone's situation. Have a little empathy. That poor little girl. Poor Mike. No matter what a human is a human and from what I knew of him, he was a good human. Have a little respect for his family.

I too keep 40 lbs of propane and about 20 gallons of gas on hand at the house. Granted it's in a shed but also has about 100# of chlorine and fertilizer. Good lesson here is to keep highly flammable substances out of your garage/house or locked in the appropriate type of cabinet.

I hope is was an accident. Really a terrible situation for all involved whatever the cause.

There is nothing but speculation here. "Appears that an accelerant was used". How many of us have gasoline and propane in the house? I know I do. That Facebook picture was posted in December which, as some of you may know, is during the winter. Power outages and backup generators folks.

Exactly. I think the media is sensationalizing that picture, trying to imply premeditation. For all we know, he went in the garage and was kicking stuff around and he set off a series of very bad reactions. Until the arson report specifically states otherwise, I can't jump to any conclusions.

Though he and his wife were having big problems, I can't imagine Mike doing anything purposely that might hurt his daughter. Mike adored that little girl, that is unequivocally without a doubt.

I have 2 cans of propane and that much gas in my garage right now, not to mention smaller quantities of a dozen other flammable chemicals. Unless you are a local news outlet desperate for a story, that amount really isn't suspicious. All it really shows is that he had a lot of stuff in his garage that could go boom under the right circumstances, either purposely or by accident. It doesn't necessarily show motive or intent.

Look... this is awful, deliberate or accidental. And we may never know exactly what happened in that garage. That said, nobody is just one thing - good, bad whatever. All of these different versions of ourselves co-exist within us. So if this was deliberate, while it's tough to deal with, it doesn't change the guy we knew.

Maybe it was an accident. I just got caught up in the news feed. I apologize.

And the comment of going out with a bang. He was transporting a lot fo flamable stuff in the back of an enclosed vehcile. He could have been referring to if he were to get in an accident it could have gone boom. I could see myself saying something like that if I was doing something risky.

Also after a fight with the wife the garage is good place to blow of steam for me and I'm sure a lof of others.

Sometimes people do drastic things such as taking permanent measures for a temporary situation. Mike was one of the nicest guys and was well loved and respected. Check out his FB page and you'll see what I mean. Probably the stupidest move by any human being I have ever personally known but I dont know his circumstances or what led him to be in that position. It can never be justified or rationalized.

My bet is he posted that picture last year as a joke. He explained the gas and propane when he posted the picture 9 months ago. When a desperate moment came around maybe he thought back to that as a possible out.

Either way a daughter lost her father so lets have a little respect.

Gentleman,

Mike and I have been best friends for 28 years. This is a huge loss to me and all those who new him well, but mostly to his wife and lovely baby, Sophia.
If you are interested, a fund has been started for her. You can find it here.

Regarding the fighting I see going on in this thread, I'm sure Mac would have enjoyed watching it - that's the kind of guy his was.

^^^Sorry for your loss Carl. Loosing a good friend is very hard. Best wish's to the wife and that poor little girl. Very sad.

Definitely donating. Skipped the ice bucket challenge and sent money Sophia's way.
