I did some more tonight.

Stacked up some stuff to get it up to the frame and do some more measuring. Here is where it will be. It looks like it is pretty far out there in the pictures, but looks better in person. It is about 1" short of sticking out as far as the tires. I'm going with Lance's suggestion of mounting them with the heavy metal down and making the top a step. I took these as soon as I got home, just to show you how dark it is at 5pm.

With more accurate measurements, I moved on to tacking the rest of the square tubing in position. I will do one more mock up of everything before I really stick it all in place. I will go to the metal shop on Saturday and find some plate for the top. I figure I will just stick with some cheap 1/8" flat stock. I may punch a hole or two in the bottom for jacking/wash-out points.

Starting to look like something's coming together with these. I wish I had the time to finish them in one setting, but lack of tools/time is holding me back. I keep buying tools here and there and each step is easier than the last. My next projects should go even faster.

Consumables are cheap on it too. The distributor is out of Michigan. It's been great so far. Not to say it won't burn up some day. However, for $300 it was worth a try.

They also have a Plasma, Stick, Tig unit that can be had for a little more. I was watching that one and mistakenly bid on this one because they look so similar.

Welded up, still needs gussets, but seem really solid as-is. I am going to wait and see if I have any good gusset pieces left over from the bumper build. This will save me from cutting into good pieces that I have now.

The probably are about even with the apex of the body.

It has a bit of texture now, but maybe a little more would help. I know the old bars got slick, and they already had grip on them. Speaking of, these old one were only held on by a couple of bolts and were basically exhaust pipe. I can't believe they are still in one piece. Hopefully, these will last forever!

that is one of several reasons I don`t weld to the frame

On something different, I may have went a different rough. But it is what it is. Someday, a lot more will probably be welded to the frame, when less body is attached. However, I haven't reached the point where I feel like I can let go of all of that...

Rear Bumper: Loosely based on a bumper build I saw over on Yotatech.....


Chopping some 4x2" tubing down to 27".

Tapered Edges for a nice 45* turn.

Looks like those $7.99 Haulmaster lights I got on sale will fit, eventually.

Taper some more edges and make some quick tack welds...done for the night!

Update on the bumper build....no pictures tonight, at least, not uploaded.

Got the bumper mounted for the first time tonight and it looks pretty good. I like the way it sits and hope I left enough room for the tire carrier.

I didn't account for the tail lights and turn signals on the truck being separate so I have to use a converter OR two separate aftermarket lights. So, I am using a 6" LED flush mount for the tail/stop lights and small 2" LED markers for turns. Unfortunately, the location of the mounts get in the way of where I wanted to place the lights, so I will have to space them out further than I wanted. I'm going to weld some 10,000 lbs D-rings over the mounts, between the lights.

The wrap arounds hit the seems on the bottom of the body, so I have to cut and/or hammer them out of the way. I took them all the way up to the fender, but may cut them down along with the fender, because there may be some tire clearance issues during flex.

I'm trying to get this, and a couple of small things finished because it is getting COLD! It's staying mid-30's in my garage. I would buy a heater, but I asked for that, and many other things I need for Christmas. Now, I can't buy what I need for myself, until I see what others have gotten me.

Bumper is sitting back on the floor, waiting for small adjustments, light mounting, and finishing welds.
