Hello all,

Before I start badgering you guys with questions, I should explain that it is my sister who owns the Land Cruiser (87 diesel, auto tranny, (HJ60/BJ60??)). She has moved to Alberta and was forced to leave the LC behind because the frame is too rusty to pass an inspection, so I am trying to help her out. I am a Supra guy myself, so I don't know much of anything about these trucks.

Anyway, as I mentioned, the frame of her Land Cruiser is rusted beyond repair and needs to be swapped for one that is in better shape. I guess I am ultimately looking for any advice/experience that you guys have to offer in this department. But as for specific questions:

-Is the truck an HJ60 or a BJ60?
-Where in the lower mainland might I find a used frame that is in good shape?
-Is there any place that custom makes new frames for HJ60/BJ60s similar to what they offer here?
-What shops in the lower mainland would be qualified/willing to do a swap like this?
-Estimated amount of time and money involved in such a project?

Again, any input or advice from someone who has been in a similar predicament would be appreciated, although I don't suppose that you guys have many rust problems down here on the coast (this Land Cruiser has been all over the country).

Thanks for all the help!

Hi ToySoup, and Welcome,
It is probably an HJ60, because of the auto, guess it has a 6 cylinder diesel also.
Depends how bad the frame is, sometimes you can fix it if you are a handy welder, and confident in your welds. Although my frame is good, there are a lot of rusty frame trucks in BC, so you are not alone. My suggestion would be to try and get a frame from the states, or an import frame from Japan (GS cruiser parts) as they are more likely to be mint (a mint BC fram would be hard to find). I would start off by going to a Coastal Cruiser meeting on the second thursday of the month, and talk with a few guys, as they might have a few leads on a frame, and if not are atleast a wealth of information, then you can go from there.
Cheers,
Deny

I can also get you a good frame from Central America if you want. Things here don't rust either. PM me if you're interested. I've had bodywork done by Boyd Autobody in Tsawassen (Peter is the guy there and used to be in Richmond as Baker St. Autobody) and he does good work.

My frame is getting swapped out down here in Central America since it has the rust problems too though not that serious yet.
