I took my lx through a brush free car wash. When I was drying off the vehicle I noticed a piece of rust drop from between the door and molding. One from the drivers and another from the rear passenger door. Has anyone else experienced this?

My 2005, having spent all of its life in PA, has this on about every molding panel. I bought it two years ago, and over time have managed to reach up under the molding and rip all of the rusty pieces off. They seem to be attached to the panel with double-sided tape. I have had some pieces fall themselves, (in chunks like you show), and land on the running boards, but I tried to pull the rest of them off to keep the rusty "paint stains" off of the area below the clips.

Removing the rusted out pieces did not seem to affect the molding's attachment to the doors, as it wasn't being held on at the bottom anyway.

Thanks for the information. I am glad to hear my door is most likely not rusting out.

Do you happen to know what is securing the moldings to the door....

If I try separating the lower corner of the molding to take out these pieces, will the molding become loose or rattle over time?

IIRC there are additional clips on the upper parts of the molding holding it on. They don't seem to get the rust problem. I did not notice any rattling after I removed the rusty chunks. I thought if I did notice any unusual noises, I might try to stick some good Velcro fasteners up inside the moldings to re-attach it to the door panel.

I have seen threads regarding removing the moldings all together and welding the holes shut.
