Hey all, finally got my "dream car" 200-series after thinking about it for years. Bought a used 2013 LX 570 with 70,000 sight-unseen and it arrived today. The car is perfect inside, body is almost perfect on the outside, and everything worked flawlessly after a long-drive today.

Only hang up is quite a bit of surface rust. It looks normalish for a salt-belt car. I poked around and nothing flaked.

Is there a recommended treatment - rust converter, than spray over black? I was hoping to do the "keep it forever" 300k+ mile thing and would like to limit/prevent further corrosion now.

I am in a similar situation. We have had the truck a couple years now and have yet to tackle this... following!

Sand prime and paint. You will need to do it again in a year or less. I've painted the axles and the paint in some areas was gone in weeks. You can use stuff to slow the rust but the axles get hit with road dabre the most. Probably should hit the backer plate on the rear brakes asap.

Thank you!

I did find this:

The guy tried to fix his FJ Cruiser (pretty bad) by power-washing the flakes off and painting on a convertor product like Corroseal. No idea how long that would hold up. I remember people saying you could apply a wax-type treatment yearly if you already had no rust.
