I am thinking of running the Arkansas River bed this summer. I’ve been looking from Garden City to Dodge. It’s all fed on the river, like the Kaw or Missouri. The bed looks pretty dry through most of the that area and then maybe further. There’s a number of towns along the way. I was thinking of doing an overnight and camping on the bed. We have family in Hutch and the river is always dry through there. Has anyone ever done this? If so what were the challenges. I don’t know much about driving on sand, but particularly the mechanical issues that could be caused by sand and water.
