CE XD9000 mounted low in the rear. Over 10 years of abuse and neglect...

Yep it was still running, seemed to be working fine, but was difficult to get into free spool... hmmm I wonder why? ...Yes I’m an idiot for not taking better care of it.

Times are tough. I’ve got a dozen other projects that take precedence over this one, and I’d like to stay married. So dropping $500 for new parts isn’t feasible right now. The best I can do is clean it up, grease it and run it, and hope it holds up 😬

Good news! For obvious reasons I was afraid of what was lurking inside the motor. Ignorance is bliss, and I almost didn’t look...

Just a bit of dirt. Bearings and brushes all in good shape 😅

What was wrong with that line off that little step? Just let gravity be your gas pedal...:hillbilly:

Agreed. Sometimes you just gotta send it!

...I wasn’t paying proper attention. Rocky, steep, off-camber trail that’s hard to follow. I zigged when I should have zagged. Hard to see in the photo, but the crap ARB front bumper was mashed and pinned in the rocks. That bumper is well suited for pushing through the bush and knocking over kangaroos maybe, but rocks not so much. Throttling through would have pretzeled it.

Bear Lake. Sits on the border of Utah and Idaho. Photo was taken from the Idaho side.

Going back together finally. I noticed a couple of the connector pins were corroded to the point wires were ready to break off the back so I ordered and soldered in a new connector. The connector sits above the exhaust, and I could tell over the years the harness had been baking a bit, so this time around I wrapped it in foil tape and used DEi heat sheath.
