Selling an interesting project 40 here in PA. I had bought this truck years ago, sold it to a friend who took off the front end and all doors to start painting it. That’s as far as he got. I bought it back after sitting in his basement for three plus years. When I originally bought it, the truck had been sitting in an enclosed corn crib on a concrete floor. Inspection stickers on the windshield and the sticker on the license plate say it had been sitting since 1995! The guy from whom I bought it corroborated that time frame. He bought it in the same condition as I found it, he had never done anything with it.
The particulars Build date October 72, VIN FJ40137404, engine ID# F411629. Frame stamping matches the door sill plate and title. Clear Pa title. Mileage unknown. Of course has an F engine, has a header and a decent exhaust system. Weber carb with good cable linkage. Engine sounds Ok and seems to run decent. Has a three speed transmission floor shift, works well. Stock 4.10 rears with drumbrakes all the way around. Stock steering setup, too. The skid plate is in place. Parking brake works OK.
Has a fiberglass tub fairly well installed. I say that because unlike a lot of FB tub trucks, all the doors fit well and close properly. Brand of tub unknown. It also has fiberglass front fenders. All the metal parts are excellent and virtually rust free except for some surface rust. Four doors very nice, one amby door had a dent and has some filler in it. Doors open and close and latch properly front windows roll up and down well. Door weatherstripping is actual usable. Windshield frame is very nice. The hood on it in the pictures is tweaked and I have a good one to replace it. Bib, grille and aprons are solid. Fiberglass top is very nice and the headliner is still in place. Glass is pretty good. Has the biggest back bumper I ever saw on a 40- I think it’s ugly but whoever built it did a nice job putting it together, fitting it, and building in the tail lights. Front bumper is decent. Tires are 31” BFG all terrains on black wagon wheels. Dashboard is nice, instrument cluster is nice too. Not sure if it has any kind of lift it does have a Heckelthorn steering stabilizer.
Wipers and light work. Both heaters are in place. Front seat is a bench from an unknown donor looks funky but fits well and is comfy. No inside gas tank- looks like someone added an aftermarket auxiliary tank instead of using the stock tank. The fuel filler is now in the passenger rear quarter behind the rear wheel. The stock opening is still there, unused. I’ve been working on it, the truck hadn’t run since 95. I put new plugs and points in it, and she fired up. New fuel filter new rad hoses. I replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders with is in parts. I’m waiting for a new master cylinder too. I replaced the hard brake lines and hoses on the front axles, right now it has no brakes! Should have the parts later this week. I’m installing ground busses in a few places to assure good grounds for the electrical stuff. Right now the heaters aren’t working but I will address that. No radio in fact no antenna is mounted. No rear seats no spare tire carrier.
So it’s solid rust free 40 that someone has put some money and a lot of work into. Needs a good appreciative owner to iron out any bugs and enjoy a relatively stock 40- these are getting hard to find. I have enough cruisers in my stable to know I don’t need this one. The top and doors gotta be worth $1500, as solid and nice as they are. I’d like to get $4100 for the truck, complete as it sits with the top and doors. Without top and doors I think $3200 is a fair price. Located in northeast PA not far from I-81 about 35 minutes from Rausch Creek. Best to email me shmukter@pa.metrocast.net.
