There were people on the Con last weekend and I am not aware of any gate that is installed to prevent anyone from attempting the Con in winter.

Just be safe, cause if you screw up its gunna cost you...

Mikey,

Check on the Pirates forum. I think Smud closes the trail for motorized vehicles in the Winter. At least the Loon entrance.

Alvaro

Jim,

Apparently last year SMUD and the Forest Service placed a sign on the Loon side of the trail saying that the trail was closed for motorized access.

Right now is a great time to take a shot at it from the Tahoe side, only a few feet of snow instead of ten.
There is no gate (yet) but usually the local plow guy/loader operator gets a little carried away with the snow bank at the begining of the road to the staging area. Not a problem right now.
I've gotten ugly looks from cross-country skiers and a few snowmobilers but no trouble from the law.
Winches are key for gaining ground and (getting back out sometimes)
It can be hard on full bodied trucks but a s**t-ton warmer for sure
It's all old, cold, sugary snow around Tahoe which makes for sooper crappy traction.
Wait for the next good snowstorm, then hit it.....
