Rubber trim on undercarriage?

I took the family out to the Dugway Geode Beds yesterday. After about six hours of gravel roads we made it home with a couple of buckets full of geodes. After getting home, I noticed a black thing hanging underneath the truck. Any ideas what this is? It is looped over the top of the transmission.
