Would anyone be interested in a group buy of roof top tents from china? It's looking like we could get the same tent as a lot of the major companies for 300-700 bucks depending on options. Also we could print the CLC logo on the side of the tent and the tent cover for when it's all folded up on the car. Was just curious if there would be any interest in this?

$360-$480

I would be interested....as long as they aren't crap and steal the money.

A guy from a local group just did this. Picked them up today. I've never used alibaba before. I was going to get more info on it before I did anything. They have the hard shell ones too for like $6-800

Can you go check out one the local guy got? May be worth doing the same ones if they are decent and came as ordered.

Is shipping built in?

Hard side would be cool but I'm thinking those are not made in the same factories as the real ones like the regular rtt.

I'll text him and ask him. It would be sea freight split x10 at least

I might be in for a hard side model. Put me down as a maybe.

Awesome! I'm pretty sure the colors are selectable. Trying to gauge interest

If the hard shell is not a total piece of crap, that savings is significant amd hard to pass on. You are saving about 50% on the soft top amd about 75% on the hard top. Let me know what you find out on the quality.

It's looking like the soft tents are dead to rights the same as the branded ones. I have never even seen the hardshell ones before today. Don't have much to compare to.

From What ive seen some of the chinesium knockoffs, some are and some are not the same as industry standard known mfg. Finding out which is which and quality is the challenge. Theres a long thread in ONSC about chinese knockoff group buy. It took about 3 people to get through the import process and products seem mediocre. Big savings for sure but half the folks broke their fauxwing awnings first time out though some were weather related. Still a lot of money to drop if junk but i get it only used for 10 nights a year or so type use but id be bummed to have sunk 30% of the cost on 10% of the quality. One of our members also inported his own through alibabi which seemed to go smoother but similar results. He was able to plat "dealer" and get around the minimum order of five with some knock on the discount. Also had them customize the height and door placement of awning and had decent communication with team abroad about desires though a strong languge/grammar barrier. HTH.

I definitely need to do some more research on this. I know someone who speaks Chinese so I was going to definitely have them do the communication, if it was on the phone. I can see where there maybe problems with some. Gotta dig through and find the right supplier. There are literally tons of tents on that site

These are junk.

Just like about 60-70% of s*** you buy from China.

Why don't you buy from a known quality source, support a small company and usually their family, and get a good product (South African, Australian, US-made)?

But then again, who gives a s***. As long as you save money who cares about supporting small businesses in the US.

:meh:

I know for a fact that a majority of the soft tents come from these same factories in China. Before this weekend I did not know about the hard shell. The tags even say made in China. Some even say Shenzhen on them. ARB, CVT, Tepui, frontrunner, all made in China. I'm all for supporting small business, but the above companies are not small businesses. Also, unfortunately the majority of the products made out there for camping or these vehicles are either made in China or Thailand. Wherever labor and materials are the cheapest. The fact of the matter is that I can buy the same tent. Put whatever logo I want to in the same spot where it says "tepui" and even have them print the same logo on the cardboard box they ship it in.
