I am in the process of replacing my front brakes including turning the rotors. So I had to take the front hubs apart. This is my first time attempting this, but I have been following FSM and it has been going pretty smoothly.

However now on reassembling everything I was able to get one side together no problem. The other side is mostly back together except getting the axle all the way through the flange. The axle is through it but it was way tighter to get back on than the other side. It is also flush with the hub so that there is no space between them. The problem is that the axle wont come through and further to put the snap ring back on.

I have tried loosening it again and turning the hub to see if it would settle, pulling the axle from the backside. Im afraid to be to rough with it. No luck though.

Is there something I can try or do to get it to come through? Should I take it all back apart? Is it possible that I switched the sides the flange belongs to and this could be the problem?

Any and all help is much appreciated, and thanks for your time.

And yes I did try a few searches relating the the front hub flange and couldn't really find anything with my issue.

If you did swap flange sides then that could be the problem. I've noticed odd wear patterns that make it essential to put the flanges back on the same side. Assuming you've tried pulling the axle through by fitting an M8 bolt in the center hole at the end of the axle shaft [that's what the hole is there for], its hard to see anything else that would prevent the axle sliding through the flange so that the circlip groove is exposed.

Hmmm. I did notice that hole in the center of the axle. I used it to center the gear puller when I removed the flanges. I did not try that yet. Is it in the FSM? I will have to research this more. Thanks.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on this. I was able to get it back together now. :)

glad you got it figured out! i had an issue with this one time and it turned out i forgot to remove the original flange gasket so that extra thickness prevented me from fitting the snap ring back on.

Got it all back together and took it for a test drive. Brakes are nice and quite and feel strong. Thanks for all the great resources on here. Helped me accomplish what I would call a bigger job for me.

We love the easy ones. I stared at that hole for a minute before checking that it was threaded, then everything got  easy. The board has helped me a lot with various projects.

As another tip, the bolts that hold down the ABS sensor wire in the two or three brackets fit perfectly in that hole on the end of the axle shaft. It's almost like Mr. T thought that it would be good to have them handy for just such an occasion.
