I have an 8 mm screw and I can't seem to pull the cv outboard enough to get the circlip on. Having trouble. Any ideas?

That's awesome. Thanks. But how far should I be trying to pull the axle outboard? I now have a lip but I don't think I can go anymore.

Just reinstalled my duffs today and up to the axles for the front. I greased stuff using slee's tool

Have two of every clip. Also need to know how snug fitting they should be. I am assuming no movement in/out. But I just don't know if I pulled the axle out enough. I think I did. The dust shield on the inboard side of the hub is pretty much flush.

Greasing the spindle bearings makes it very difficult to pull the cv's back into place. If you didn't replace wheel bearings or races the grease should be the only thing in your way. I have used a claw hammer on the bolt to help seat the cv's in the past.

Try pushing the axlel back into the spindle (like you did to thread the Slee tool) then pull the axle back out from the shaft between the cv boots. You'll hear trapped air escape from using the tool.

Also, make sure the old hub gasket isn't stuck to the flange and now you're trying to fit everything back together with two gaskets. Ask me how I know....... Think simple first.

thanks for all the help mud people! I finally got everything done and buttoned up. Now i'm just doing the break-in for the gears. Thanks!

Glad it pulled out for you. For future reference, after greasing the spindle bearing with Slee's tool and re-packing the wheel bearings, I recruited my wife and we both pulled on the 8mm bolt/large washer with a big crowbar. It didn't take long to squish out enough air and grease to get the snap ring on. I used new ones and the original thickness was the correct clearance.
