Hi all...in the middle of front brake job and the rotor will not seperate from the hub. Its all off the truck at this point but nothing will come apart. I did remove the five bolts on the back of the rotor. The write up in the faq makes it sound like it should all just come apart after that. The other problem is the oil seal on the back side will not come out either. Am I just dealing with a corrosion issue here or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Hold the rotor in a vice and use a dull chisel and bfh to separate the hub. Its corrosion coupled with a tight fit, but it will release with some persuasion.

Put it right up on the bench and hit the hub with a hammer and you'll slowly see it separate from the rotor. Keep working your way around and it will come off.

For the oil seal, lay something across the backside of the rotor and use that as a leverage point with a long screwdriver or pry bar and pop it out. You'll need to replace the seal obviously, but you should be doing that anyway. Again, you might have to work your way around.

Thanks guys, I finally got them to seperate. It didnt look like anything had ever been taken apart before. On another note, does anyone know the size bolt you can thread into the axle shaft to pull it out?

It's M8 I think. But don't bother, just reach your hand behind and pull the axle towards you from between the cv boots. You'll hear it come all the way out.

If you grease the spindle bearing as part of the brake and wheel bearing job, you'll need the M8 bolt to pull on to apply enough force to get the axle shaft back out. I put a big washer on the bolt and had 2 people pull hard for a bit until the shaft finally pulled out enough to get the snap ring back on.

There will be some air trapped in there. Just push the axle back through the spindle and pull from the cv side and you'll hear the air escape. I've never needed to use the bolt method but YMMV.

Bolt not necessary, but if you need one, Mr. T conveniently put one close by. Use one of the little bolts that mounts the brake sensor wire brackets to various points as it runs up into the engine bay. As I recall, they fit perfectly.

Good to know about the bolt. I didnt end up needing it either but you never know. Finally got front and rear brakes done. I had never done the fronts before so there was some learning involved but Im glad I did it myself. Thanks for all the help.
