I am planning on installing a single din pioneer next week. I just got the radio and metra harness to bypass the stock amp. I've been reading through the TLCFAQ web page and any stereo FAQ threads on here with no answer to this specific question.

How and where are you guys routing the long harness From the head unit to the amp. It's probably a dumb question but I still have to ask.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I ran it down behind the dash into the space under the center console. Then under the carpet to where the amp is.

Take your time and double check your wiring as you go. TLCFAQ and some of the information in the threads here slightly varied on my rig. Heck even some of the wiring diagrams didn't match....

Great, thank you

which metra harness is the bypass one? I need to rewire my stereo to bypass the factory amp because it has developed the bass drone syndrome and the pioneer HU probably has more power.

Go to crutchfield look up your radio or similar model and it should be under accessories. Then find at your favorite shop. Bypassing made a huge difference with my Pioneer hu. I had the same bass drone made worse by my jl sub...

Yea that's the one

Is this metra 70-8116 plug n play? I’m a little confused on what to do when installing an aftermarket head unit since the metra 70-8112 is also recommended. Would I need both harnesses, one to wire to the harness on the head unit and the other to bypass the amp? Any help is welcomed! Thanks!

You should just need the 70-8116 if you want to bypass the amp. The one plug connects to the speaker wires that exit the amp and the other plug will provide power to the HU. Use the 70-8112 if you want to keep the factory amp.

Thank you! I had to look a little harder at the pics for the 8116 to see it was two separate pieces. Thanks again!

I just checked and when I did my install on my 04, I used 70-8116 to bypass the amp and 70-8113 to hook up the HU. I did not use all of the wires on the 70-8113 but I chose it because it has an orange wire for illumination. This allows for the HU to dim when you turn your lights on. Of the 11 wires on the 70-8113, I only used red, yellow, orange, blue and black. Your year model may be a little different.

I have a ‘99 so that may be the case. Thank you! This is all pretty new to me since this is my first LC

Would the 70-8113 work for a 99? My aftermarket HU has an illumination/dim wire and I’d like to utilize that if possible. Thanks in advance!

In this configuration where is the power coming from? Are you tapping into the other connector on the factory amp?
