Hi All:

"Fussy," looking good!

Have you had it on the road yet? What do you think?

Alan

Back Seat??

What did your backseat come out of? I've been looking for something like this. Thanks.

Already? I only signed up a year ago.

I bought this 1979 at the end of 2004, my wife thought I was totally nuts. I had just changed job and my new job was only 6 miles away. I had always wanted an FJ40, my buddy tried to talk me into a Jeep TJ, but I said, "No way, too reliable for me...!"

Anyway, looked at like 10, and finally bought this one, paid waaaayyyy too much for it, but I was happy so who cares.

The PO had done the V8 swap, 3" lift (2 1/2" springs and 1/2" shackles) and had replaced the tranfer case and the rear diff trying to chase down a horrible drivetrain vibration that had kept him from enjoying it for some years. I had no clue, this one was the best LC I had looked at, the others in various stages of disrepair or diassembly or both.

I soon found out that driveline vibrations and the wandering from increased caster caused by the shackle lift (and ****py rancho springs) made driving the rig intolerable @ anything above 35MPH, so my quest began and I discovered IH8MUD.com.

I took it to a guy I knew to put a Saginaw PS setup on it, and I put some shims in the front and back all of which made it drive strait as an arrow at any speed but I still had horrible driveline vibrations. Replaced all the motor/tranny mounts, new drive-shafts, and a new harmonic balancer, all of which helped but didn't eliminate it.

Oh, yea, install a new backseat! :D

I am still fighting an issue that I can't figure out, it is a mean hesitation at mid-throttle. Am in the process of installing a fuel pressure guage in the cab, so I can monitor the fuel pressue.

Thanks,

Nice rig, what is that color?

It's not Toyota, that is all I know. I have had luck with Nissan Desert Tan, but I can't find it any longer.

Nice! I love your air intake on the new engine! I'm in the process of doing an SM465 swap too. Just waiting for 5 pm to hit so I can go home and drop it in!

i really like your'e soft top ..were did you get that!!thanks cub

EFI

wow, looks like a really good upgrade over there!! nothing wrong with EFI unless it's not done right in the first place. you will be extrememly happy im sure! good luck and I want before and after stories!

Great cruiser, great story....the classic "I'll buy this thing and put 33's on it and that's it" -- then the engine is out

from what year c10

Hey fussy_cruiser,
Cool build, and thanks for sharing. I have the same exact bob firestein mounts, from what year c10 did you get the rubber motor mounts and bracket from? Also did you have to do anything special to get the wheel wells bolted in? Did the mounts get in the way at all?

Thanks!
John

Sorry I missed this. I buy all my engine parts as '79 Chevy Blazer 4x4. You have to give a vehicle model when you walk into the auto parts store, so that is what I use. You can use a '79 C10 as well.

I had to cut the inner fender wells to fit around the firestein mounts.
