I HAVE ANOTHER POST ABOUT THE KNUCKLES, THIS QUESTION SHOULD BE EASILY ANSWERED I SEARCHED AND DID NOT GET THE ANSWER I AM LOOKING FOR....
CAN GREASE BE ADDED TO THE KNUCKLES WITHOUT DISSASEMBLY, i DO NOT KNOW ALL THE NAMES FOR THE PARTS (SORRY) BUT THE SQUARE NUT ON TOP BACK CAN I ADD GREASE THERE????
THANKS TO ALL,
HALF WAY TO MY NEW SPRINGS(WAS GOING TO REARCH, THINK NEW ONES WILL BE A BETTER WAY TO GO)
THIS WEEKS PROJECT FIX THE BELL CRANKS, AND LOCATED EXHAUST LEEK SHOULD BE AN EASY FIX...

Yes you can add grease through this fitting, but the only way to get to the bearings is dissassembly.

The knuckle on cruisers is designed to "leak" a little grease around the wiper seals on the inside of the knuckle. You replenish this lost grease by squirting some into the hole where the square plug goes.

It is not a way to "relube" the knuckles.

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

Just wondering, because there is grease on the outside, figured I should be putting some back in.

Rebuild mine over spring break. I have no sign of grease wheeping through the seal. Is something wrong? Do I need more grease in there? Truck runs great no execive heat at the wheels, no weird noised, and most inportanly it tracks scrate.

OK;, you've got a felt and rubber seal there on the inside side of the knuckle house. This will weep a little, but it should not be a lot. Deep inside the knuckle house is the inner axle seal that seperates birfield and wheel bearing grease from differential oil. When this goes bad, gear lube intrudes into the knuckle house, mixes with your grease, and oozes out much faster. Not a panic siutation, but not one to be ignored either. Time to repack kncukle and wheel bearings, the birfield, and put a new seal and gaskets in. Not a difficult job, but about 3 hours per side, and messy. Wheel bearings generally can be re-used, knuckle bearings, in my experience, generally need replacing.

i'm in the middle of a knuckle rebuild too. i'm not sure how much grease to put BETWEEN the wheel bearings. when disassembling things both sides had large quantities of brease in the hub cavity between the bearings, doing nothing obvious. do i need to replace it? seems like a waste. maybe it's there to keep the grease in the bearings from migrating to the cavity?

I guesstimate i packed it 3/4 full per FSM. Used a grease gun and a rubber spatula to pack it in. When I did my rebuild there was hardly any grease in there. There was alot of goo that was a mix of gear oil and grease. It took me three days (a lot of interuptions ) to do mine. Most of the time was spent cleaning.

Yeah.. sorry!

I filled the hub up to the inside diameter of the wheel bearing. Used a thin spatula I stole from the kitchen. Just packed it like the piture in FSM. And grease in there was very thin too.
