Hi Gang,

I am considering a Jap BJ74 w. factory removable HT. As most will know, the HT is fibreglass.

Does anyobe know if a roof-rack can be mounted and used with the fibre glass top?

Thanks,

Mine came from Japan with a custom roof rack that had Thule gutter mount feet on the rear and at the fron rain gutters of the FRP roof. I just recently threw it away because it's not built strudy enough to throw my 8' pram on top of it. I don't know if this would have suited your needs, but I would have just given it to you if I had known. Greg...is that roof rack still sitting in the metal junk bin outside the shop, or has it been thrown away?

Mike McTague used some sort of high tech supr-strong aerospace glue to bond the feet of a roof basket to his FRP top. Last I heard from him, he said it worked great.

I am going to have a custom roof rack system similar to systems used on pickups with canopies. There will be a thin rail between the FRP top and the body seam that will be the base for the rack to bolt to. It will go from the windshield all the way to the back of the FRP top in length, and will hopefully be sturdy and adaptable enough to carry a boat, cargo, or maybe even a rooftop tent someday. But this project will not take place until later next year sometime. After I have it done, I'll post a pic.

This is the idea that I have for a roof rack...please forgive the primitive computer work. :D

Mine has 4 feet made from aluminum plate that sit in the gutter
2 above the front door in the gutter and 2 above the rear doors
Mine holds 100kg(220lbs of camping gear) , it could hold more but I have never tried it. My son and his friends sit on top and watch events

I am looking for a photo with the carrier on.
I usually take it off when the snow season comes because it is impossible to keep it clear of snow.

Thanks
