More info required. Does it need to be one those little ones that sits above the cab ,or the type that go down the full length of the bed?

I wish, I dont know of a place that does them locally. The one that sits above the cab.
You mean the little basket type or the 2 rack type. Rhino racks sell both of these for the 07- 7* series.
You buy 2 of these. (You need this one to clear the high arched roof.)

and then bolt one of their baskets,trays or racks to it.

Their small basket rack would be quite useful over the roof of a 75/79 Series. I assume it would attach to the roof gutters.
Yes, its about $350 for the total package. But I think it would affect the fuel consumption.
I prefer a steel tool box in the back
My HJ75 has the aerodynamic profile of a concrete block so it is difficult to see how much more a roof rack could hurt.

( horsepower ). ...... My powerful 2H fullfills that role.
I'm also looking for an ARB rack. but found nowhere other than aussie. If you can.. try to find a OEM toyota rack that came for LC - KZJ 77/78s. And you have to shorten it to fit to your cab. In that case you have to use only 4 brackets. (May be this also sometimes rare to find...) I have one of them in my KZJ 78.
I cant suggest any thing other than this...
