I go back and forth on whether I like the looks of roof racks (the two bar types from Thule and Yakima). I really don't use mine, but some times I have them on and other times I like it off.

What do you think?

Cleaner off, unless you got some real roof racks.

Roof Racks! I love them!

I could not live without my roof racks. I couldn’t carry half the crap I want.
I think they look cool. I would like to get a real rack sometime in the future.
Check my webby for pics of a loaded Yakima rack setup.

With the one you have... OFF

If it was a Con-Ferr or ARB or Hannibal or Tradesman or Custom, then I would say ON

leave 'em on. they're roof racks and they serve a purpose. if you upgrade to a cage style roof rack, then swap them off. until then...

Won't fit in the garage with the rack :frown: I put it on in the summer, looks like a battlewagon :)

Looks to me like you answered your own question. If you don't use them why have them on the rig? Especially since it's just a couple of crossbars that clamp on in a couple of minutes.

Yeah, that's why I keep them off most of the time. Since I have them, I can't help but put them on for novelty.

I leave my Hannibal on becuase I really don't have a safe place to store it. Besides, it's handy when you need to unexpectedly carry oversized loads. Truth be told, however, I'd much rather take it off and use it only when needed. After 4 months of having it on, I guess I'm just used to it. That and it helps hide my oxidized and peeling clearcoat.

I have a full sized wilderness rack but the truck will not go in the garage with it on so it is stored for the most part. I can put it on in 20 minutes if someone helps me put it on the roof. I have a 4X8X4' tall enclosed utility trailer that I always haul on trips. I have 3 child seats across the bench in back and a norcold 60 qt behind them so I need extra cargo space.

I also have Yakima cross bars and I leave those on all the time as I can garage the truck with them in place.

I wind up using them unexpectedly very often so it is convienant to have them already mounted when I am out and about. I leave the canoe gunwale brackets on them and they are great for securing lumber etc from lateral movement.

You probably should take it off when not in use anyway. Saves gas. I leave mine one because it carries my spare, but if I ever build a back bumper I will take it off when not in use.

i think it's a pain in the ass to remove and replace, so if you don't really use em??? If you like them on and don't use them at least throw some lights on the front one or the wind deflector or something...

I carry Kayaks all the time so they never come off if you want to see a variety look at the 60 registry for pics. Mine was posted 02-06-06, 03:41 PM

i don't really get why you're asking and having a poll for something that you don't really even use in the first place.

i have one and i use it. therefore it stays on the truck.

keep em off... i have seen 2 rain gutters get ripped off because of dragging branches... never mind that they arent stable... i have seen them loaded slide right off the back of a truck on a strrp incline, spare tire and all - right john?

That's pretty rare with the *right* rack, though.

If you don't use them, why have them? If it's just for looks, get rid of them. If you do actually use it get a real rack set-up like surfpig or go custom. Personally I think the wagon looks sweet with racks... but yours a bit on the sad side... no offense.
