Okay, some of y'all that think this stuff through better then I, let me run this buy ya.

My inner and outer rockers are starting to show the years of trail use, welds are seperating and everything is starting to rust... especially on the under side. When my rear tub and body mounts rusted out I used 2 or 2.5" heavy wall square tube to repair it. Couldn't I basiclly do the same thing at the rocker panels with 2x3 or 3.5" 3/16" rectangular tube and make them long enough to act as sliders at the same time? Does that make sense? I could use the tube as a rocker panel and a slider and cut out the ded gum rust all at once. Maybe run some 2" DOM to the frame or cage/frame tie-ins to strengthen it and weld the Fault Line Sliders I have now onto tube.

Not much chance I'll make it purdy again.... anything else I'm not considering here? I'm not overly concerned with what the interior floorboard will look like... I just don't the tub falling apart anymore then it has and I'm ready to truggy it..... yet.

Thanks,
Mike

Go for it! It cant hurt it..and armor is always good to have.

that's pretty close to what i did. at the time, i wanted to keep my rockers and running boards, so i put 1/8th wall 2x3 behind the rocker and 1/8" angle on the outside. double reinforced rockers with the running boards bolted on looking stock. however, now the rockers are buckling in at the floor board. soon i'm going to cut the rockers off near the floor and run 1/4 angle outside and be done. just need a way for the wife to be able to step up in (she's only 5'2).:D

Here are the pictures of what I did. What you can't see is that before those went on there is a 1.5X1.5 tube wraped into the sheet metal of the rockers to keep the sheet metal from crumbling up lite tin foil when all weight is sitting on the sliders and stuff moves a little. It has worked really well thru the years

Judging from your seat placement, you must be one tall dude.
Exchanging rocker panels for tubing is what i am going to do as well.

This is what i did with mine.. 2x2 Rec Tube Welded directly to the bottom of the floor/rockers.. The i tied it into the frame and cage with that tube.. works pretty good, but i have slammed on it enughf to bend out my sheet metal on the rear ( i need to add another frame tie in)

I trimmed up the rockers as well. I used 2x4 and covered them with the stock steps I chopped up for giggles. I used the front two frame connection as the tie ins for the cage and to replace the tub mount bracket. I don't think it is going anywhere and I gained a ton of clearance gettign rid of the goofy tub bracket. I plan on building some tube fenders and I'll probably use the front of the step as a tie in for those as well.

Here's a pic of them in progress. Good luck!
