Hello all! Looking at purchasing this high mileage 100 series as a project. Is this rust on the rocker panels too far gone? The frame looks fine, so does the engine bay which makes me think it’s okay. I know rust like this can be cancerous but It doesn’t appear to have spread to the frame. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Can I just rip off those panels? Replace them with rock rails? Thanks!

The short answer is, yes, it can be removed/repaired.

The Collision Repair manual (BRM080U), in the Resources section, has all the information you need to restore any body part.

How did that happen like that? Usually they go together but that frame looks good. It’s non structural rust on the body. For a project if cheap enough I’d go for it. Weld in new sheet metal and rattle can it and call it a day
