Road use in Rampart Range

I read an article in Sunday's local CS paper titled: "FEDS AIM TO CURTAIL OFF-ROAD VEHICLE USE IN RAMPART RANGE." The article talks about the road situation concerning ATV's, motorcycles and 4WD's as off-road vehicles. The articles says that some system roads could be closed. There will be meetings in CS on June 24th and in Woodland Park on June 25th. The meeting locations have not been set, but check at their web site in June. http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/pp/

This road use discussions in our back yard. We need to make sure we have folks at these meetings and that our ideas are heard. I'm not sure about my trip schedule yet, but if possible I plan to be there.

This really hits home for me, most of you know I moved here from Louisiana almost 2 years ago--and back home, there is no public land.....zero! Sure, you had state parks, but there was no four wheeling. Just places where you had a camp site mapped out for you (picnic table bolted down, fire ring that doesn't move and a tent pad you had to use).

I used to wheel a lot in Texas at Barnwell Mountain, It was a $30 dollar a year membership--plus $25 dollars a day to play, and only open on weekends.

In Hot Springs, Arkansas--at Superlift Offroad park it was the same way, about $35 dollars a day. only open on weekends.

My best friend Lee lives in Tennessee, where you used to be able to pay to wheel Tellico (the Trout fishermen got organized and closed Tellico because of sediment buildup in the creeks! TROUT FISHERMEN?!?!?! How many of them are there compared to motorsports people?), and to wheel their local place, Royal Blue, you have to have a fishing license to be registered, plus ay $17 dollars per person, per day. yeah, per person, not per vehicle. Take your kids and afford that!

I don't know how many of you have lived other places, but as you can see, you can lose priveleges fast. By the time you put gas in the tow rig, or drove your rig to a park, payed your dues and put gas in to get home, you were out $100 bucks for a weekend.

After moving here, and seeing how wheeling can be--I think I would rather sell my 4x4 before I went back to paying darn near a $100 to wheel when I needed my fix.

Lets keep up on this post, and I would hope if things got drastic, we could get together and fight for our priveleges.

I heard about this, this in a no brainer to fight to the death for our god given constitutional right to use the public lands! We need to post this up in all of the CO furums. We need backup at these meetings, and I will be at these with my voice
