I am looking for a bicycle carry case for my road bike. I plan on taking it on the plane with me at the end of the month. Does anyone know of a inexpensive bag I can buy. This is likely going to be a one time deal so not looking for anything great. I found some on ebay but they were from a Hong Kong seller and don't want to bu out of the U.S.

I forget to ask if there were any alternatives to a official case. Any ideas for another bag that I could use?

They're easy to use, protect the bike well, and have good re-sale value if you only need it once or twice.

And, they're small enough you can sometimes sneak it thru as a "trade show display" at check in, and avoid the bike fees.

I'm selling one at my garage sale tomorrow! but I'm in california.

I've seen these cardboard boxes at charity bike rides and they seem pretty nice. I like the cardboard because they seem to provide protection for the bike and components, plus they will fold flat when done. The biggest problem with my full size hard shell plastic case is that it is really big. practically does not fit into a car, difficult to store, etc.

If you want to go really cheap, you might go to a bike store and get an used shipping box from them. But you should research whether the airlines will take it.

I have always just swung by a LBS and asked for a bike box. Takes some disassembly but cheap (free!) and easy. Just pack it well with bubble wrap or something similar.
