Out for a ride yesterday and got hit cruising thru Kings Beach. I was in the bike lane and a vehicle turned left across the street and hit me. Got lucky my left leg was in the "upstroke" off my spin, or my leg might have taken the hit instead of my bike. Sent me about 5' onto the driveway of a gas station...hit hard enough to knock me out of my clipless pedals. CHP took info, EMT's checked me out and cleared me. Feeling it this morning, but literally walked away from being t-boned by a minivan, so I can't complain about some rash and bruising. The bike however is done - downtube split & cracked the headtube and BB lugs 😢

Glad you are ok, the bike can be replaced i hope. You got hit by a Dodge minivan, hope he/she got good insurance, most important is you are alive and walking.

Oh man. Sorry to hear. I'm glad you're not hurt worse. Love those bamboo Calfees ...

... so much that I had my carbon Calfee painted to look like bamboo

glad you’re ok. i’ve seen my fair share of cyclists just bumped by cars in traffic with fractures or other injuries. hope you’re back on the wheels soon albeit it different ones 😞

Oh no!! That's terrible. I'm super sorry. :(

****ing drivers.... I refuse to ride on roads anymore.
I own a hardtail and a full suspension mtb, but dont ride them since I moved to Tahoe - the trails around the basin are WAY more technical than my abilities. Always been a roadie...just riding inside the basin is a high risk activity due to lack of routes/shoulders, heavy traffic, and distracted drivers (got me 2nd guessing the move, in all honesty). Gonna grab one of my other bikes and try to ride today to see where my head/nerves are, and how my body is healing up.

I used to be a hard core roadie, Crit racer. Tried a mountain bike back in 1996 and NEVER went back to road. Woods and trails are too awesome.

Still have my 1978 Road bike, Reynolds 531 double butted throughout. Rebuilt the bike to Campy Super Record in 1987, when feeling flush.

I grew up in Tahoe (south lake), Born and raised. Try riding in the Carson valley, much mellower trails, wider roads, and can mostly ride year round snow free. From incline it is an easy drive to Reno and Washoe valley.

Count me aa Someone who also never ride on the road anymore. My 3rd car impact, got t-boned by a Porsche in the early 2000’s, was when I quit the road bikes for good.

That sucks! So how would price a replacement on something like that? Does the driver have insurance?

I found this.
Got the report today...no insurance :bang:

I go to Carson on weekends - Hwy 28 has major construction heading toward Hwy 50 w/30 min+ delays at each closure, so not really worth the time during the week. Still looking for decent routes in Reno area - crazy drivers with city speeds/traffic makes for limited options, IMHO.

Time to move to the desert.....
Used to live in rural FAR northern CA with abundant empty county roads to ride, but got out of CA when I could. Wife and I are looking in AZ and So. NV for a warm weather "get away," and the state of the various local cycling communities is a HUGE factor in the choice of locations.

@nor_cal_cyclist so are you going to take this person to court? Did the cops cited him?

Cited for failure to yield...meeting with my lawyer on Monday to determine what to do. Pretty sure my bike was worth more than the minivan - even neglecting the rare factor for the frame (had recently upgraded drivetrain to SRAM AXS Red).

So sorry hear about that accident, but very happy to hear you only lost a bike and some skin. That is incredibly fortunate! I try to avoid pavement riding nowadays, sticking to trails and rural gravel, on an MTB or gravel bike.

I’ve had the most fun in the last year on an Orbea Wild e-MTB. I know a lot of people are anti e-bike, but I say don’t knock it till you try it. It dials the mountain bike fun up to 11. And it’s way easier on my 53 yr old knees! They make you a little faster uphill but mainly let you ride longer and have more fun.

Just keeps getting better...clearly states in the CHP report accident was due too failure to yield (cites VC 21801 (a)) and witness stated van hit me, yet State Farm has denied my claim, noting the driver of the van was not an insured person on the policy. WTF!! Lawyer says not worth the cost, since it's outside small claims.
