I have a 96 FZJ80 with the stock aluminium rims. I noticed that my spare doesn't have any weights inside the rim like my rims in use. Are the rims balanced at the factory or are the weights that I'm seeing done everytime a new set of tires is put on. Does this mean that I should go and have my spare balanced if I plan to use it when rotating my tires?

The absence of weights on the inside of the rim means one of two things. Either the tire/wheel combination is very well matched or it hasn't been properly balanced.

If the tire is the original spare and has not been on the ground it probably balanced up with minimal weight when new.

The only way to tell for sure is to spin it up and see what you have.

Keep in mind that there are two kinds of weights--the kind that stick on the inside of your alloy wheels or the tapped in weights that are put lip of the wheel. Check for both. You probably have neither =)
