I drove a 96 troopie on a long distance drive across a mountain range once, and it was a very pleasant experience. Then I had an FJ40 and now an FJ70 and life is not the same, i want long wheel base plush suspension. My question is how does a leaf sprung troopie measure up to it's later coil suspension ancestors? I have been in larger american pick ups with leaf springs which were supple enough for my tastes btw. Thanks for any informed opinions much appreciated.

The coils are better but the coils and the rear leaves on new troopies are not great. The local suspension shop removes the complete suspension from 20-30 new troopies and utes a week for the mining companies and throws them in the scrap metal bin.

You can get a good ride from aftermarket leaf suspension and good shocks like the larger american pick ups,but aftermarket coils are even better.

I think we went through this last week didnt we?

with the right custom spring pack you can get as smooth as you wish suspension .. but honestly I would follow the Coil suspension path .. all in all it's a mayor project ..
