I have posted this here instead of the 80 section in case someone else has had similar issue.

I installed a 1300nm NPC clutch kit into my ‘92 80 series, standard 5 sp 285/75 tyres and running a Grunter Gturbo. Making around 800nm torque.

Clutch is slipping. I should say squealing but there is definitely a bit of slippage if I don’t back off particularly if mashing it in 5th or going up hills in taller gears.

I recently pulled the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate and returned it to NPC. They said it tested fine, machined the pressure plate and sent it back. I am really happy with their service and I really like the pedal feel. But this slipping driving me nuts.

It’s not like a completely toasted clutch but it starts howling under certain conditions and I cringe and back off.

While clutch was out, swapped in a new box from 79 series and modified the 5th gear to drop the revs. Great mod and highly recommend.

Clutch was reinstalled and first change into 5th and I had it squealing. Rang the mechanic and arranged for him to come for a drive.

Took him on a test drive and mashed it in 4 and 5th towing a trailer and stopping in the brakes. It was squealing a lot. Mechanic did seem convinced that it was the clutch.

I’m at a loss as to what is happening. The clutch is properly adjusted. The clutch fork has no pressure on it and is not effecting the clutch when it is engaged. The mechanic was of the opinion it was because of heat possibly from the turbo. I stated it couldn’t be because it did it cold when I picked it up.

I cannot think of anything apélese in the driveline that could be causing slippage, squealing in the clutch area.

Anyone else had similar issue or have suggestions.

New box, new clutch, machined pressure plate and fly wheel, transfer bearing replaced (just because it was apart), engine redo 100k ago. No oil leaks in main or gb.

Cheers
Mat
