So I’ve put more hours of research into this than I care to admit. I’ve ran it several times over the years but last time I went I was met by Sheriff Deputies. They were adamant it is not a public road. And you might be subject to trespassing violation if you have no business to be back past the Yadkin headwaters, or permission from land owners.
The road itself is actually an easement per the deeds created when the land was sold from a former timber company and divided into individual tracts. I can tell you with complete confidence you cannot traverse the length of the road without trespassing on private property. There is a several hundred yard section as you cross into Watagua county that is not deeded with the road/easement.
With regard to the easement, I consulted a lawyer about my ability to legally travel the easement. His take per the wording of the deeds was that a judge could easily interpret it as trespassing without a specified interest in using the road/ easement to access land I personally owned or had permission to use. Now easements are a weird idea in law as the precedent governing them is grounded in British common law, which allows for several different interpretations. Point being, it pains me to say that you won’t find me back there again. It’s simply not worth the risk.
