Can anyone recommend a shop in Houston or the surrounding area to complete a "restoration" on a 1978 FJ40. I have purchased a numbers matching, rust free, low mile example from California. To my surprise, it even came with the window sticker and dealer delivery check list.

As a long time admirer of the LC, I plan to keep forever. While not a regular mudder or rock crawler, it will see the offroad.

While I am NOT interested in a museum grade restoration, I am mindful of having a competent shop complete the following: powder coating the frame, addition of a OME suspension, replacement of all bushings, windows and door rubber, addition of an AC kit, a PS kit, and bunch of little things.

Any suggestions would be grealty appreciated. I have attached a photo or two.

Thanks in adavance,

Dave, a newbie

Off Road Unlimited

If you are on the West side I would call Tom at Off Road Unlimited (Hwy 6 and Westhemimer). He has done a lot of work on cruzers, including his own, and has always been very fair on price.

my64fj40 - Thanks for the reply. I called CCOT thinking they would be the natural choice. When I called, the guy told me they "dont do restorations, sales only" and hung up. I didnt get a chance to inquire about their parts. Really surprised me.

I'll check out Wimberly Toyota, I'm heading to Bandera this weekend.

Thanks again - Dave

CCOT no longer performs restorations, but does sell parts. Let me know what you find out in Houston as I need to have good resto-work done and my inlaws are in Montgomery. I figured I'd have a buddy down at Gullo Toyota fix my 75 Freeborn Red FJ40.

I have some names here in Dallas too, but no experience with them.

BKerr - I had those guys work on my prior Jeep. They do good work. I assumed they could do the suspension, I didnt think they would be into the restoration but I will call them and see if they can point me in a direction.

Thanks

Dave
