I've been having the issue of a very hot mid pipe for some time now. It gets so hot that the bracket to hold the middle seats is almost hot enough to burn your hand. This is a problem for me as I usually have 2-4 dogs in that area that go on all of our trips with us. At first I thought this was an isolated issue but after talking to every '06 and '07 owner at hih this year we came to the consensus that all of our exhausts get excessively hot. This alleviated my concerns a bit but I decided to play with the issue anyways.

So my question to the forum are
-Do all model year exhausts get this hot?
-Has anyone found a solution to this? I can't seem to find it using the search function.
-what's the purpose of the resonator? Will removing it have any effect on anything except ,in or weight savings?

As part of my attempts to solve the issue I started with removing my resonator and screwing in a piece of exhaust tip from pep boys. After driving about 15 minutes I have not noticed any difference in the way the truck performs or sounds. The heat usually occurs on long drives so today was not a sufficient enough experiment.

Let me know your opinions.

Sorry for the bad pic. Took it while installing the pipe at pep boys.

i have 2007 LX and i feel some heat under driver side. Inside of center console is very hot as well. could it be same issue?
would be great to find solution to this.

I have the same issue with those areas as well. The center console gets so hot that the CD player starts having a lot of interference. I believe the exhaust is hotter on these cars to cut emissions, but not a 100% sure about that. It may actually come down to reprogramming an Ecu or something, but I will experiment with cutting out the resonator first.

I've considered that and its a possibility but its a pretty large area that starts at the front seats, includes the center console (as you noted) and spreads to the middle where the heat seams to be the highest. Some of this area is already heat shielded. I may consider wrapping the pipes in motorcycle heat wrap if this resonator removal does not help.
