I wanted to post this up, because there was a discussion in other groups, and so many people are doing it wrong.
Also- If you haven’t looked into On Trail Training’s classes, I would highly recommend it. I’ve taken their Recovery Skills 1 class, and I learned more in that 8 hours than I have in my whole 25 years of wheeling experience. :)

Yes, Matt's a good instructor and an all-around good dude. He did some short '1-hour seminars' at the Expo Colorado event last summer (2017) and he was also a vendor/exhibitor at 14er Fest (Buena Vista) in September. He's also a Land Cruiser guy (wink wink).

Yes he is. I believe his FJ80 has more gear strapped to it than I keep in my whole garage. That thing must weigh 8,500 pounds.

I took the recovery class because it is required, in order to be a member of Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery. When I heard that, honestly I was thinking “really? I have to go take an 8 hour class to learn about my winch??” so, so much more than that. Turns out, I knew nothing about how to use recovery gear. Now, when I think of how we recover people on the Christmas Tree weekends, that scares me a little bit. Now i’ve Realized that we should have designated group leaders that have recovery training.

Btw- some of you should sign up for CO4x4R&R. Most of this crew is out of Denver, and we’re always short handed on people with the Colorado Springs/Teller County recoveries.

I thought you needed to maintain pressure to seat the bead?

So what are we doing wrong recovering people?

nope, there is an inner bead on wheels. Once the bead moves over it, it’ll stay put. Unless you have the valve core in, and the negative pressure sucks it back off.

As far as rigging- I’d be typing forever. Mostly rigging. You would really enjoy the class.
