ReRinging Pistons, Head On

I wouldn't be too concerned with a quart every thousand miles. My 2f burns a quart every 600 miles or so. Runs fine, doesn't smoke, compression is decent but not great at around 130-135 psi per cylinder last time I checked. I think a lot of my personal oil burning issues stems from the fact my truck spends almost all it's time running down the highway at 70mph at 2500-2700 rpm. That and I have been running 10w40 in it. I'm going to try 20w50 next time around. But I have heard that sometimes a fresh head can actually cause more lower end blowby. Happened to a friend on a 350 once. Nice fresh tight heads on a 150k lower end and all of a sudden it started using oil like crazy. Could have been something else, but it's a theory anyway.

I wondered about this, too. I, also am going 20w50 on the next change.

In summer I run a straight 40W.

Hey Dave, if you want that motor, I suggest we meet somewhere in the middle.....like Topeka, KS. That's about 60 miles from my house.

Heh heh.

Hmm. 60 miles wouldn't even get me out of the county.

Ed, you know I need to fix this engine up enough to haul a trailer down your way so I can pick up that 74 engine. So that's what this is about!

Actually, I saved the Deutz crate my new motor came in. Completely covered with plywood and cool metal fasteners, ala the Krauts. Could easily ship.
Really what would be halfway? Like Denver?

Yellowstone Park! :D

Well, maybe more like Sinclair, WY. But its hard to tell, especially timewise, because I can't go anywhere East in a straight line, it always involves going north and south and north and south again, or vice versa.

Sounds like it might be closer if I head East and you head West. How far are you from Jackson Hole? I have friends there who travel back here during the summer......usually with a pickup. I just checked a mapand you are close to Jackson, actually Hoback Junction is where they live.

If you call 10 hours' drive close, then Yeah!

Works for me. I still think YOU should come up to Jackson and I'll meet you there!
