Report on sudden acceleration...

this excerpt is incredible to me:

"NHTSA has received more than 3,000 complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyotas and Lexuses, including some dating to early last decade, according to a report the agency compiled in March. The incidents include 75 fatal crashes involving 93 deaths.

However, NHTSA has been able to verify that only one of those fatal crashes was caused by a problem with the vehicle, according to information the agency provided to the National Academy of Sciences. That accident last Aug. 28, which killed a California highway patrolman and three passengers in a Lexus, was traced to a floor mat that trapped the gas pedal in the depressed position."

And imagine that - congressional investigations and hearings, not long after the US Govt invests billions in US auto manufacturers :hhmm:

Nothing against US manufacturing, but this whole deal seems a bit shady to me...

And, in this case, there were 4 floor mats in the vehicle. Toyota engineers should have factored that into their design plans...

Toyota says this "Toyota says its own downloads of data recorders have found evidence of sticky pedals and pedal entrapment as well as driver error"

And

"Toyota has always taken the position that the electronic data recorder system is not reliable,"

So really this test is all mute.

I for one am glad someone is finally showing toyota that their product isn't made by god. I love toyotas but I, and many others, have gotten sick of their attitudes. Their corporate attitude sucks and the sales staff at most of their dealershipsare the same. (Parts departments seem to be staffed with great people though)

We bought Andrea's Matrix from a Chevy dealer because it had all the options, minus a stick shift, that she wanted. When we tried to order a new one from the Toyota dealer from across the street with those options we were told that they didn't have one like that on the lot and didn't seem very interested ordering it. So we went across the street, bought the used one from the very helpful staff and then drove back to the yota dealer to thank him for all his help and hard work. :grinpimp:

In the long run this will only help them approach things better.
