Looking to turbo my 3b in the near future. Although I'm planing to tackle the top end and replace the pre cups and head gasket first. I was curious to know if I can replace the piston rings at that time as well?
Wondering if it's as simple as dropping the oil pan, unbolting the connecting rods and pushing the pistons up enough past the block to swap the rings? or is there more to it than that?

Thanks.

So physically that is possible, but without honing and putting a crosshatch on the cylinder walls to force the new rings to break in, the compression would be terrible and it would burn oil forever. Perhaps longer.

You can do the top end and leave the rings for a complete rebuild later. A top end job can really have a dramatic positive effect on performance.

Once you push the pistons up above the block they will come right out. So cleaning and changing the rings would be easy.

But as gerg said new rings without a hone are a bad idea.

Yes I agree with the others. Every time I have seen it done ,it ends in grief with oil pouring out the exhaust pipe after a few thousand klms
