I just replaced my fuel filter, and in doing so, sprayed some gas around that side of the engine. Didn't realize its under pressure. Is there a trick I can remember for the future? I'm guessing I remove the upstream hose first and slap in the new filter as quickly as possible. Also- how long should I wait for the gas to dry up before I run it? It's not pooled up anywhere, just sprayed a fair amount.

Spray some engine cleaner in and around the area where it got on your truck.

About the line being under pressure...I've seen some pliers that are used to pinch vacuum lines...maybe these would work if u applied it before the filter?

Idk, maybe also try releasing some pressure by removing your fuel tank cap?

gasoline evaporates at a lower temperature than it ignites (flash point). unless there is a spark or other ignition source, a small amount of gasoline should not ignite as the engine heats up. It will evaporate then disburse before it flames. If this was not the case, there would be a lot more engine fires than there are...

Removing the gas cap will take care of the pressure. I found out the hard way the first time I ever replaced one.

yup, remove the gas cap and then use a pair of small vice grips if you don't have "hose" pliers. but if you use vice-grips, don't make them too tight or they'll cut the hose. i would wrap a rag around the hose to help prevent hose damage. also, clamp noth hoses; incoming and outgoing so there's no drain-back issue from the carb to the filter.
don't worry about the spilled fuel, it'll evaporate fairly quickly. spray some simple green on the mess if you're worried about it.

Yup, I opened the gas cap to help with the pressure, you still lose some gas removing the hoses (if you don't use a vise grip or such) but it's minimal and doesn't spray everywhere.
