Hi to all! I am getting prepared to to do a 5.3 / 4l60e swap on my FJ 62. The donor vehicle is a '03 Tahoe flex fuel that was rolled. I'm in the process of replacing the output shaft to a 2wd unit so that I can use the AA adapter. I was comparing the shaft that I have to others, and it appears that the splines on the end of mine do not extend as far up as on others. My shaft (bottom)

The shaft in the lower left picture shows the splines going almost to the reluctor ring, vs my shaft, which shows the splines ending a good inch or more before. I know that I will have to cut the end off to use the adaptor, and am worried that there won't be enough spline length for the adapter to work. Also, will I need to install the old reluctor ring, or does the kit come with one that is specific to the adapter? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated! I won't be doing the actual swap till this winter, if there is interest, I will do a thread on the build as I go. Thanks for any help, this forum has been a huge source of information.

You should be fine, a stub shaft attaches to the output shaft of the trans. It only engages about 1.5-2" of the shaft. If you do not have the adapter yet call and order it now as AA has none of the stub shafts in stock and are not slated to make them for a bit as they have two massive orders for Atlas T-cases and all their machines are tied up making parts for the T-cases.

I am not positive about the length of engagement so give AA a call and they can give you the exact number.

Thanks, NCFJ, for the quick reply. I am at the point in the tranny rebuild where I need to install the output shaft, and wanted to be sure that the shaft I had would work. I've enjoyed your threads, and admire the great work that you do.

Do I use the stock reluctor or is one supplied in the kit? The pictures in Manucho's thread look like it is an item unique to the adaptor.

daytonnadogie.. i used the reluctor ring supplied with the kit... so it can be alocated where the speed sensor screws into the A adaptor.
i believe the spud shaft engages the tranny shaft by 4"-5.5"

Thanks Manucho! I've read your build thread 3 or 4 times. Everyone on this forum is so willing to help out. Hope I can contribute once I get going full speed on this.
