Long story short: I went to the tire shop to have new tires mounted and balanced and the shop broke one of my TPMS sensors. They replaced it with some generic (brand unknown to me), but my TPMS light is still on. I agreed to bring it back Monday to have them reprogram the sensor so it communicates with the system properly.

Is there anything I should be on the look out for here? Are generic sensors really compatible?

Thanks guys

last week went thru same senario; don't know how to link my tread I started on here but if you look back you may see it. Sears guys insisted mine were corroded and rusty and needed to be replaced after I had to get 2 ripped up tires. I don't think the generic ones are the problem it may just be all needed to be "synced" together??? I have not fixed mine yet. Snow/ice/ cold weather and christmas stuff cutting into my time. I have been monitoring the pressure manually to be sure every other day. Someone did mention that if you try to re set the system it will blink telling you the system is a fault and not the actual tire. which mine does.

Thanks for the link, not sure how my search didn't find that. I have my doubts about this tire shop being able to fix it, but that document will hopefully help.

got to go into shop today and yes the sears guys just did not know how to re set/program the set of sensors. Special note it does not matter that they were non toyota sensors. I am running 2 toyota/lexus sensors and 3 generic ones. Now not sure how long those generic ones last but I will post any issues I come up with

Glad you got it resolved.

The shop I am dealing with sent my truck to Toyota, and I think they just reset the system because after driving a few miles my light is now flashing - which means its in error mode (not reading one of the sensors). Very annoying.

absolutely understand I wasted 6 hours plus paying Sears for work which probably was not needed. I know many of us complain that the dealerships overcharge and sometimes even they themselves don't do proper work; but sometimes we need them lol

Adding some info here to hopefully help others.

After much drama and many trips back to the tire shop I think my problems have been solved. Not all TPMS sensors are compatible with our trucks. Apparently our trucks use a 7 digit registration code. Sensors with a different amount of code digits will not work.

good info was not aware of the 7 pin item; Once the weather gets better here I'm gonna try to switch all mine to toyota versions.
