Well this is really more if a friendly reminder to myself on filter changes.... (last changed 14 months ago)

I have noticed that my '99 PreRunner recently has a had a a bit of a struggle when the gas is really applied.
Decided to order a Toyota gas filter and change out. Glad I did. The photo you see is a result of the old filter being poured down from the out going (engine) side.

Nasty color and sediment too. (white rag placed behind the container for comparison.)
So if it's been awhile since your gas filter change, might want to consider it!

Just did mine a few weeks ago. I didn't have your symptom, but I did it just he same. Still chasing a slightly hard start. Sometimes I have to cranks it 3-4 times to get it to fire. I guess next will be a standard tune up and see if that helps.

Guess I answered my own question. Time for a tune up.

Ouch!! But good grab on the fix. Nicely sorted out.

An otherwise fine 5VZ will die and require a restart when held on the rev limiter for anything more than a second when it wants a new fuel filter. Much earlier warning sign than any hard starting issues. Of course this should be done in gear under a load and ONLY when absolutely necessary :hillbilly:
This one in particular spent a lot of time on the far side of the tachometer..
