hello guys- I was on here a while back asking questions about my leaking injector pump and I finally sent it to rob at odd iron to fix it for me. I got it back fast and im sure he did a good job for me. while its off, I am going to do the water pump and timing belt and fan belts. my timing kit had 3 seals and one was for the IP at the timing housing. the one there now looks to be metal and the one in the kit feels like hard silicone or something, and its a dark tan color. I replaced lots of seals in my fj40 but none of them felt or looked like this one. i'd like to replace it but can I do like on a metal one and use a big socket to tap it in with? and the manual says use a screwdriver and remove old one. all the seals I have seen have been metal so wonder if I have to do something different on this one, or be extra careful. any help and advice is appreciated.

hey gun runner- thanks for pointing me the right direction. feel sure my hzj73 will run a lot better than it did before. I just need to get this IP seal figured out so I don't mess it up. its not made out of steel like all the seals i've replaced before. hate to take the old one out and mess the new one up trying to get it in right.

I assume you're communicating with Rob on this matter?

I saw this on the bench a while back but didn't realize it was yours.

yes, I did ask rob about it and he said if it looks ok it would just be up to me. I thought about it and since I have a new seal I think it would be good if I replaced it. it shows in the manual where you can remove the old one with a screwdriver. im probably making too big a deal out of this, its just that the new one seems kind of flexable but I guess you just do it like you would normally do. I will see if I can find a socket or something big enough to tap it in with. yep, that's my new pump you're showing in the picture there.:) I should be good for a long time now. thanks gun runner.

hey guys- I shouldn't even have put this thread out there. I have changed seals before and as it turns out, this one was about the easiest I have ever done. old one came out very easy and the new one I basically pushed it in place with my hands. not like the steel ones, I guess it will work ok though. thanks all.

hey gunrunner. I got the pump back and got everything put back together alright, along with a timing kit, water pump, and new alternator and AC belts and it runs just fine. no problems at all. i am thinking i may do a little better on the fuel mileage also.

Glad Odd Iron could help.
