Hey, I got one of those tuffy console inserts but I need to remove the passenger armrest to install it. Anyone know how to take that thing off?

I installed mine when I first got it (April '06)
If I remember right, theres a cap at the pivot point that should pop off, and one long bolt to remove.
Should be simple.

Just remove the cap with a putty knife or panel pop tool and take out the bolt....done son.

Sweet! Thanks guys. I'm guessing the cap just pops back over the hole. I'm off to work.

well, I got the armrest off and got the new console installed, but that cap doesn't pop back over the hole where the arm rest was. Now there is just a fairly ugly hole there in the side of the seat. The new console pretty much covers it but not completely; and I'm kinda anal about my truck and having everything look the way I want it. Also, Is there a position that is best to remove the armrest in.... I mean should it be fully up or fully down when you remove it? Or does it make no difference. I ask because there is this little metal stud that sticks out of the hole. It is above and to the left of the main pivot point where the bolt was. I wonder if the position of the armrest at time of removal will change the position of that little stud. I think it must be part of what keeps the rest locked into a particular position. Anyhow, thanks for the help. If there is no way to cover that hole, I'll probably just look into those seat covers that Specter Off Road sells. They look pretty nice.

The only reason it wouldn't just pop back on is if it broke on you when you took it off. Which is very likely considering it's just a piece of plastic. I'm sure Toyota could find you a replacement if needed.

nope, nothing broke. The round plastic plate that covers the pivot point/bolt is only fits onto the armrest itself. It is not even big enough to cover the hole in the seat if it did have something to fit into. Now, maybe there is a different cover that goes over that hole, but I don't have it if there is one. I got my truck with the passenger armrest already installed. So do I need to order a cover for that spot? Are all seats designed ready to install the armrest, or do they cut the fabric when they do the install. All I know is that the round piece of plastic that covered the bold on the armrest does not cover the hole left by the armrest removal.

There is a plastic cover that pops over that hole, I just don't have it because I got the passenger armrest installed before I bought the truck. The new Tuffy console is really nice. Now I can keep things locked away and out of sight.

According to the Armrest Installation Bulletin, the original cap that covered the hole in the passenger seat is 'tear drop' shaped, and is larger than the cap that covers the bolt when the armrest is installed.

I though you re-installed the arm rest after putting in the console. I have the cap that goes into the seat since I added the armrest after getting the truck. I could send it to you. Send me a PM if your interested.

No, the top of the locking compartment on the console doubles as the passenger armrest. It has a nice leather or pleather padded lid. Thanks for the offer of the tear shaped cover, but I already ordered it from the parts dept. at the dealer. It was only like ten bucks, so not too bad. But again, thanks.

I just bought an armrest for my FJ. I will have the original if you want it just for the postage.

Let me know how to get ahold of you

That will work. I already ordered the part from the dealer, but I'm not sure I paid for it already. If I have not yet paid for them, I would love to get yours for postage. Thanks so much. My email is jacobslmn@yahoo.com and my phone is 419-309-9748. I'll call the dealer and see if I have paid for it or not. Then I'll let you know. Take care!
