So in the past weekend we opened up my rig to work on the cv's and I noticed that the rubber bushing on the tie rod end is cracked. I was told that this bushing was not sold seperatly and that it would be impossible to seperate the ball joint so a replacement bushing would even be an option. Now Im starting my search for an after market tie rod ending that would not only replace the old part but add some strenght to the front end. Any suggestions? Does this type of thing even exist?

i assume you're referring to outer tie rod ends - they are like $45 each, why not just replace them with oem?
also regarding your comment that "separating the ball joint would be impossible" - separating te ball joints in the control arms is possible but i dont think it's necessary for tie rod end replacement unless you are referring to the tie rod end's joint as a ball joint?

anyhow - replacement tre's are 45... i'd replace with oem, haven't seen/heard of many people having them fail prematurely. also any rubber will crack evetually. how many miles and years on yours? if they're original from 2000 i'd say 12 years is reasonable.

Its in the shop right now but ill try and get a picture of it tommorow or the next day. But it was refered to be the mechanic as a tie rod ending.

Also in refrence to the question it has 175,000 miles on it and i believe that the tie rods are original.

You are in Dallas, call Jacque or Barbara at TRDParts4u and go pick up the new ends. Its an easy job, just make sure to mark the threads where the old ones come off and you will be real close to where you need to be when you install the new ones.

Last time I bought one for my FJ it was about $35, not sure how much they are for the 100 but give em a call, they will take care of you. TRDParts4u is inside of Toyota of Dallas.
