When is the next big redesign? Don't "need" anything right now (have an FJ). Want the latest and greatest and am willing to wait.

Anyone who gives you the answer with “certainty” at this point...should be ignored. :)

Much speculation...no confirmation.

We simply don’t know. Toyota keeps its cards close to the vest. Seeing as how there have been no rumors or spyshots of a new LandCruiser, I think it is likely that the 2019 will be little change from the 2018.

Interesting article about Toyota working on 300 with Subaru where Subaru will provide the engine and Toyota the rest.

Did you read down to the part where the author inserts this...? :hillbilly:

Dave From Toyota - What We Learned In Breck About The 200...

I think Dave hinted we may see something other than a V8 when Toyota does a redesign.

Yep. Consensus seems to be turbo 6cyl, but we’ll see.

A couple main points from that talk:
-Continuing legit body-on-frame.
-Land Cruiser WILL continue in the US
-Expect a more “military styled” body (I take that to mean less bloated looking. :)
-Diesel not coming to US.

But again... We will see!

Didn't they designer of the current LC 200 indicate there was till room for improvement within the current system? This gave me the impression of a update but not total overhaul. This is a global vehicle renowned for its abilities so they may not see the US market as the urgent need vs elsewhere. Either way I will go with what is known and solid today vs what is unknown and may need iteration changes to work out the kinks later.

The redesigned Merc G-Series and to a lesser extent, the Jeep JK, may be good indications of how the 300-series might be evolved. These vehicles are tied more to their functional roots than most cars. And because of that, may preclude drastic evolutionary and architectural changes. Unlike how Land Rovers only need to sell the idea of toughness and capability, the G-series/JK/LC live and die by said abilities.

I believe we'll see more body on frame and solid rear axles. Enhanced with more durability, capability, and capacity, yet with more efficiency and refinement.

I recall hearing that as well (from Dave in Breckenridge, IIRC). It's all speculation of course.

Toyota seems to be on a 4 year minor refresh cycle. I think Toyota will do something in 2020. Maybe it will be a 300, or maybe they will make some additional minor changes to the platform like they did in 2016 and continue to ride out the platform for a few more years before the major refresh. I would not expect any changes from the 2018 MY.

For the paltry 3000 units/year that they sell here, I don't think it's worth Toyota's time for them to cater to the US market regardless of LC legend. The current platform is really as good as it gets(for my purposes) as far as a compromise and I hope it doesn't deviate far from this 12+ years from now when I have quarter of a million miles on this one and looking for something new...

I think the major revisions (new series) for the Land Cruiser are historically done at the bi-annual Tokyo Motor Show. Next one is October 2019, IIRC. So that’d be for model year 2020. Anything before that would be “minor” revisions. (Would a new engine be minor? Dunno.) If no new series there, then maybe at the next show in 2021. Pure speculation on my part....

I hope its not a turbo anything. Ill take 16-17 mpg with 380 HP/400 Tq and dead nuts reliability ALL. DAY. LONG.

Did anyone specifically ask him if there would be a V8? :zilla:
