After reading all the posts on the wonders of RedLine I decided to give it a try. Did the Redline gas treatment last week on the sons 91 FJ 80 with 169,000 mi. and got some good results. Turned the oil black, proly not to good but it increased the pickup and gas mileage went from a constant highway 12 up to 15. Mileage was done on the exact same drive to the cabin three weeks appart. Little scared about the oil. Seems like I might be getting some blow by but the oil is usually very clean between changes of 4000 mi. It has been discollored only twice, once with the engine flush and this time. I use 10-30 Castrol high mileage. Comments?

Is it a Petrolium disilate*sp? If so It has probly loosened up all sorts of carbon here and there, However I cant tell you why it would change the oil color if its in the fuel lines?!? other than what you said about blow-by. Let us know what you find.
Good luck

I just bought the redline SI-1 complete fuel system treatment as well and will add it in the next couple of days. Is this the same product you used? Also, what type of engine flush did you use?

All this redline talk who can resist.
Trying a go it as well. On bottle down to early to tell.
The advanced auto guys seems to really push the lucas fuel treatment.
Who knows
All I know is to expect to change your oil after doing any other this additive play.

I've been looking for the stuff, but can't locate it. I checked Redline's dealer page, but have struck out so far on the gas treatment -- can find other Redline stuff, just not the gas treatment

After reading IdahoDoug's report, I started looking for it locally...

Doug,

They carry it near me at a local auto parts store called Monument. If you want I can pick you up some before Wednesday and get it too you in DV.

That would be cool Derek. I'd appreciate it.

...heh, heh, heh...how 'bout picking me up a couple fuel cans too? The one place I found locally that actually carries it won't get another one until Thursday -- too late for the trip.

I'm kidding...about the fuel cans...sorta...

Actually,

I have no problem picking up some fuel cans for you. Are you looking for the NATO cans, or the CARB cans? How many do you need? :)

(I probably should have PM'd this, but how else am I to get my post count up? ;p )

PM'd you :)
Many thanks!

Doug, did you try Tognottis in Sac? It's where I buy the Redline gear lube and MTL. Last time I was there the guy said they had 4 pallets of MTL in back. Price was comparable to internet pricing when you consider shipping.

I just tried the Redline complete fuel system cleaner in my Nissan pickup. I had a horrible miss at low RPMs under a load. Starting off in 1st gear was bad, and 2nd was getting as bad or worse. It felt like when you accidentally find yourself in too high a gear and the engine chugs and bogs down a bit... Bad action.

One tankful down and nary a miss or hickup since adding it. I was ready to pull EGR valves, change filters, tune-up, etc. (which will all still get done), but my truck runs like a champ now. Redline=Magic.

I think the worse off your engine is in terms of buildup, the more obvious a good cleaner additive is. What impressed me is that I'm way on the anal end of the spectrum in terms of keeping my engines in top form, using only quality gas, etc - yet I got some results. I think it is wise to use these just before an oil change because of the loosened crud that's not burned ending up in the oil. That goes for any additive intended to clean - oil, flushes, etc. I'm told the detergent based cleaners are easier on things, but still...
