I'm looking for some steel (channel and angle) to build some tools. I only know one place in Durham that sells recycled steel and have had no luck on google finding others in the area. Does anyone know any places in the greater-Raleigh area that sells recycled metal? I see lots of places that will buy it but I need some and would rather not buy new steel.

Depends on the amount. I went to Dillon supply off of West St in Raleigh to buy some, and he let me rumage through the scrap. I was able to grab some angle, sheet, and some tubing for free. I missed the big pile by a day or so, Wake tech came and grabbed a bunch before I could...

Thanks Brian - do they have a steel bin where you can just go rummage or do you have to go to the office first? I'm willing to pay for steel as well if they don't have channel in the bin - do they sell it as well? A lot of places won't sell small amounts to walk-in customers. Thanks again for the tip!

For new steel talk to Shep at Fabco in Cary. Might not be close to you, but he is fair on price and always willing to order what you need.

Excellent - that's not far from work in Morrisville - thanks!

I went to the main store front, and the clerk sent me back to the warehouse. I was looking for some small leftovers, but he (can't remember the guys name, but we chatted about 4x4's) pointed to a pile of misc metal, and told me I could have whatever I wanted. It was just going to be picked up and recycled. He asked me also that if I needed any custom bending or what not to come look for him.

Sorry it wasn't the West Street location it was the Civic Blvd location off 440 at the 64/264 exit and S. New Hope rd.

Mike definitely hit up Fabco. I think I am going there Thursday to get some scraps as well..........

sometimes the drive to greensboro to the dh griffen yard is worth the trip. its hit or miss on what they have, but i have yet to pay for anything ive gotten there its pretty informal. Buddy of mine got a truckload of steel for 30 bucks. from rdu area take 40 west to greensboro to high point road exit. head south on high point road a few miles, right on hill top. the yard is about a mile on the right. right at the train tracks. cant miss it. if you get to stanley road you went too far.
