All:

Looking for thoughts on "reman" Steering Racks and PS Pumps. A1-Cardone seems to be a common reman supplier, but I'm also seeing Detroit Axle and some others.

I need to save some cost here, so I'm going reman- but I have no idea who has the best product results.

What's wrong with the P/S pump?

Not really sure.. the steering, while improved after the thorough cleaning and flush- still is not good when "jerking" the wheel. In case I need a new steering rack, I was just thinking about replacing the pump and lines at the same time. I have 215k miles on the LC. How much longer can the pump last? I already have to replace the Tensioner (which, may be the real issue here) so doing that first will tell me if I need to replace the rack or perhaps just the bushings..? My basic plan is to:

1. Replace Tensioner, Idler, Alternator (since I'm in there) - check for resolution of front end bearing/pulley noise and steering issues
2. if steering issues persist, replace Steering rack and Tie Rod ends, PS pump and lines, just for good measure (this will address the slight clunk I have in the bushings currently- it was recommended to try and get a new pump and lines, since the rack is new.. new rack, new pump)

Sound about right?

I am not sure what you mean by "still is not good when "jerking" the wheel" but mine has about the same miles as yours. Just want to share that I replaced the steering rack bushings, and that really improve the steering. The old bushings were bad. For $40, I would replace this first before replacing more expensive stuffs.

Doesn't the whole steering rack have to be removed to change the bushings? If that's the case, why not just replace it?

What I mean by, "jerking the wheel", is basically- if you need to move/turn the steering wheel quickly when going slow it's REALLY HARD, especially when you immediately try and steer the other direction (hard). For example, when you turn left into a parking row and immediately turn hard right to get the close space. It's like someone is pushing against you :)

Nope. Steering Rack Bushing Replacement
This is for my 98LC. I think the bushing change in the newer year, but not sure what year. You need to do a search.

Not sure what would fix your problem. If this is me, I would flush the power steering fluid, and clean the reservoir and the little screen inside. Do the easy and cheap first, before replacing something expensive. But sounds like you have done this, so not sure...

Yeah, flushed/cleaned the reservior. IMproved, but still have the above issues.
Thanks for your help!
